Epoisats tunnel energy project
Cleaning up the Epoisats tunnel.
Located at the entrance to the Vallée de Joux, in the municipality of L’Abbaye, close to Lac Brenet, the Epoisats tunnel plays an essential role in the rail link between Le Day and Le Pont. Commissioned between 1885 and 1886 to transport ice to Paris, it has already undergone work in 1938 and 1976. Today, it requires a major overhaul to guarantee the safety and continuity of rail traffic.
431 metres long, this tunnel is a strategic crossing point for the line, which is connected to the rest of the canton of Vaud via the new Day station.
SBB is undertaking a series of projects to :
- Extending the tunnel profile to bring it up to current standards
- Replace the entire track: rails, sleepers, ballast and contact line
- Improving the drainage and watertightness of the structure
- Renovating the tunnel gates
These works will guarantee traffic safety and the durability of the infrastructure on this key route.
